The 3 most common questions we get from new customers is:
- “Does the bag come pretreated with conditioner?
- "Should I condition it prior to use?”
- “Which leather conditioner should I use?”
Answer: In order to deliver the most natural leather possible, the bags do not come pretreated with leather conditioner.
If you live in a wet climate, in order to waterproof the leather, you can apply leather conditioner when you receive the bag. Other than to waterproof the leather, the bags do not need to be treated right away.
Recently, in partnership with the leather care experts at Chamberlain’s Leather Milk, we developed our own, custom formulated Leather Balm. It is specifically engineered for our vegetable tanned leather.
Our new Leather Balm waterproofs, hydrates, and conditions leather. It is also very effective in reducing the appearance of scratches the bag has picked up over time.
We recommend using a small amount of Leather Balm and rubbing it in the leather thoroughly with the applicator sponge. A little goes a long way, so only a small amount is needed.
To remove/reduce the appearance of scratches, apply Leather Balm on the scratch and bend that area of the leather. Repeat as needed. Like most conditioners, the Leather Balm may darken the leather temporarily. Please use it as needed, or whenever the leather shows any signs of dryness.
Here are 2 other quick notes that will help you take care of your leather, so it patinas nicely and lasts a lifetime:
Step 1 - Make sure you store your bag inside our dust bag in a cool, ventilated area away from sunlight or fluorescent lighting.
This will make sure your leather’s natural colors don’t fade over time.
Step 2 - Put your bag to work
Over time, the leather will burnish and develop a patina as it's exposed to sunlight and absorbs natural oils from contact.
